Cecil's Cyclery Review: BlueJay

As is the case with most big purchases, it’s important to assess the pros and cons of the purchase. However, we find that often times pros and cons are subjective to the buyer’s needs and wants; so, what might be a con for some, may not really be all that negative to you, per say. It’s also important to know what you are looking for specifically.

So, if you’re looking for a stylish bike with comfort, smoothness, and simplicity, the BlueJay E-bike is the bike for you!

Though the bike gets major cool points for how aesthetically pleasing its appearance is, the BlueJay is more than its look. We can confirm that the bike is also safe and reliable, with a strong motor, long lasting battery, and top features. When riding a BlueJay Electric Bicycle you have the freedom to get where you need to be efficiently as the BlueJay comes equipped with a powerful 350-watt mid-drive motor and long-lasting battery.

Some of the main features of the bike include a kid friendly rear rack that holds up to 55 pounds, suited best for a small child’s seat or any of your carrying needs. And though we love the rear rack, a minor inconvenience comes with the problems in the frame on the toptube and downtube for mounting the front basket where the plastic tops can easily pop out.

However, the bike makes up for that shortcoming with its wonderful precision brakes, comfortable grip, and a 75 mile battery life, making it fit for fairly long journeys. We meet in the middle of pros and cons on the feature that is the rear wheel lock intended for theft prevention. Though this is a neat feature, we figure it doesn’t quite make the bike 100% safe in big cities where trucks can easily pull the bikes into their trunks. However, this may be a far fetched concern for many, so it’s up to you at the end of the day.

Another primary feature of the BlueJay is the digital control console that makes selecting levels easy with its reachability. And though the display information is mostly easy to read while riding, from personal experience, we found that the bars that represent the levels are bit too close together making it a bit harder to quickly decipher while riding. However, what it lacks there, it makes up for in the display’s USB port cover, that is easy to open and close.

As for the ride of the bike, its a generally smooth ride. The BlueJay is a 5 level pedal assist, yet the difference between levels 4 and 5 is minimal. At full assist, you can only ride the bike for about 38 miles out of a complete charge. And though the 350- watt motor has a long lasting battery it only goes up to about 20 mph -- this is definitely not the fastest bike on the market, which is only a downside if you’re committed to speed. But if you’re looking for an easy comfortable ride to get to and fro, this shouldn’t be an issue.

Like every bike out there on the market there are upsides and downsides, it all depends on the specifics you are looking for. Here at Cecil’s Cyclery, we personally like this bike because it is smooth, cute, fun, and perfect for intermediate riders.

And what we all really want to know is the price. The BlueJay goes for around $3,000 which is a pretty penny to spend on a bike;  so, its important to look into these pros and cons and decide if any of them are deal breakers for you before buying. Ultimately, if you want to go fast, carry a lot in your basket, and be able to go off-roading this is not your bike.

BUT! If you are looking for a comfortable and trendy bike with a long lasting battery this is the bike for you! We hope this review helped you make the best decision for YOU!
